Description:
Ten weeks, of which one week will be a visit to the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art, the second will be a plein aire painting experience and the third and final week will be a critique of each student’s body of class work
Each week will focus on specific techniques, elements and strategies of painting. Class lecture, individual painting and class critique will be part of each group meeting.
Bio
Joyce Gilbert is a practicing psychotherapist and fine artist. Since arriving In Fort Lauderdale Florida in 1972, Joyce raised two children, changed careers, and pursued her dream of being a fine artist whose works hang in various private and public collections in Florida and around the country.
Joyce has developed herself as a successful, highly commitment and compassionate therapist, working with clients of all ages, races, genders and lifestyles. As a successful therapist and businesswoman, Joyce as also been able to develop her talent as a professional fine artist and graphic designer. Her body of work has grown from realism to ‘representational abstraction’. She has found that each career path compliments the other. This is the uniqueness that Joyce has to offer.
Joyce is currently going to be teaching a watercolor class for the GLCC and running a women’s support group for the Senior Advisory Council of the GLCC. She firmly believes that giving back to one’s community is an essential ingredient of becoming an actualized human being.

Week One: Discuss use of materials – 20-minute lecture and demonstration of contour drawing, first painting: contour drawing.
Week Two: Unlocking your Creativity - 20-minute lecture on ‘whi9ch tree is different’ show Paul Klee’s trees. Show personal paintings of trees. Second painting drawings of creative trees
Week Three: Strategies of Painting - 20-minute lecture on Contrast. Continue tree painting and if finished create a painting using distortion and contrast.
Week Four: Plein air painting site to be decided
Week Five: Other strategies – 20 minute lecture: harmony, balance, unity, dominance, repitition, alternation, and movement. Continue the two paintings if finished create a painting using a strong contrast
Week six: Elements of Painting - 20 minute lecture on the element of color 7 color strategies. Pick a color strategy to create a painting
Week Seven: Elements of color – 20 minute lecture on line, value, texture shape and direction. Continue with last weeks painting paying attention to the other elements of painting
Week Eight: Field trip to Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art
Week Nine: Discussion of field trip. Continue painting
Week Ten: Discussion of how this course has changed your perception of art. Class critique of course paintings
