Our HERstory
Lavender Events for Women is committed to enriching the lives of those who identify as women through education, community involvement, health awareness and social networking. Since its inception in the summer of 2008 Lavender Events for Women has strived to put the L back in the GLCC. With over 12 events in 2008, including a Financial Forum; the “I am What I am Dance”, bringing together 175 women of all ages, social-economic and sexual/gender identities; an art showcase; a Toy Drive, providing toys to deserving children in our own backyard; and our signature event – Stella’s Ball, an event to benefit and make awareness about Breast Cancer and the need to for prevention and intervention. Stella’s Ball is a costume ball that brought together over 200 women and raised $1000 for the Memorial Hospital Breast Cancer Center. These are just a few of the many events that Lavender Events has hosted since our first gathering in July of 2008. With 2009 we have added a few new events to our eclectic array of activities such as, a Sunday Brunch Series, which is a quarterly gathering for education and social networking; a community health fair; a Back-to-School Backpack/school supply drive; and a sports fair. Lavender Events for Women also plans on keeping most of our events annual, including their signature event, Stella’s Ball which is scheduled for each October.
